The La Nua Eco House Project involves the establishment of a number ecologically renovated houses using sustainable methods and materials, part serviced by renewable and solar power as a cross-border tourism amenity, located in the Green Box Eco-Tourism Pilot Area. The project’s aim was to use the natural rural environment as an economic resource, reinstating run-down buildings and converting this into a solvent business strategy aimed at the growing eco-tourism market in Ireland.
The main aims of the Projects were:

Provision of environmentally sustainable tourism housing for the ‘Green Box’ integrated eco-tourism initiative.

Creation of SME’s.

To provide a model of environmental renovation, creating a database of products and service providers.

Create awareness of environmental issues in relation to housing.

Promotion of underdeveloped rural tourism initiatives as outlined in the Western Development Tourism Plan.
The project was awarded funding under Priority 1 Measure 1 of the EU INTERREG IIIA Programme for Ireland /Northern Ireland implemented by the Irish Central Border Area Interreg IIIA Partnership.
